Homework

Dear families,

Homework this year will be set to reinforce the learning that is being completed at school, and will be greatly beneficial for your child to complete at home.

Each week, children will bring home a weekly spelling list given out on Mondays, to then complete a spelling test the following Monday. Daily practice is suggested on the sheet and would be much appreciated if this can be completed.

Children should be encouraged to read at home once a day for around 5-10 minutes, supported by an adult who will be able to comment in their reading diary. This year, book marks will be sent home for parents to use during this time, as they have prompt questions written on them, which can be asked to children to gauge if the reading has been understood.

A big focus this year will be on timetables practice. At school, children will be completing daily timetable tests. To help the development of their understanding at home, children should be encouraged to make use of the online programme “Times Table Rockstars”. Their passwords and usernames will be given out in due course. With this programme, children can earn coins and rewards to improve their avatar which will be displayed in the classroom.

Finally, one additional piece of work relating to a topic discussed in the week will be given out on Fridays to complete over the weekend, which will need to be handed in on Mondays.
