Good morning lovely Year 5,

Today we will continue learning about measurements but we are learning about area. You will be calculating the area of different shapes. There are some regular shapes and some irregular shapes so read the questions carefully. Some of the questions ask you to estimate the area of irregular shapes, so make you estimates sensible. You will need to complete pages 48 and 49.

This diagram might help some of you remember how to calculate the area of a shape.

Have a wonderful Friday and an awesome weekend.

Wednesday 24th June

Good morning year five.  Today in English we will be looking at synonyms and antonyms.  Please look at the PowerPoint then complete p56 of your book.

Synonyms are similar meaning words or phrases. They can be very useful for improving the quality of your writing. Sometimes we use the same words over and over, which can be boring for our readers.

Antonyms are words which have opposite meanings.

Good morning Year 5,

Today we will continue learning about measurements but we are focusing on perimeters. You will need to complete pages 48 and 49. There are some regular shapes and some irregular shapes so read the questions carefully.

This diagram might help some of you remember how to calculate the perimeter of a shape.

Hi everyone. I am attaching today's sporty challenge for you to have a go at. I am not setting you any science or topic work today. It is going to be a lovely day so I just want you to go out and have some fun. Please send me photos of you enjoying the sunshine, maybe having a water fight or something else fun!

Wednesday challenge

Tuesday 23rd June

How did you get on with the rainbow sport's challenge? Year 6 did it in the classroom and the highest score was 32 in 1 minute and 30 seconds. Let me know how you got on. Today's challenge is below, please have a go and let me know how you do.

Your topic work is to watch the video on the Brownhill's miners. Listen carefully to the words of the song as there are some questions to answer on the attached sheet.

The year 5 children who are in school were asking Mrs Watton about what coal was used for and they talked about how it is used to create electricity. They have decided to go for a day at school without using electricity! I wonder how they will manage? Do you think it will be difficult? Do you think you could do it!

Have a great day,

Love Ms R x

Rainbow challenge

Today we will be reading a persuasive advert on the PowerPoint.  We will also be doing p4 of your workbooks on adjectives.

Adjectives are words that are used to describe or modify nouns or pronouns. For example, red, quick, happy, and obnoxious are adjectives because they can describe things—a red hat, the quick rabbit, a happy duck, an obnoxious person.

Good Morning laugh,

Today we are learning to convert measures using imperial units. You will be dealing with metres, kilometres, miles, feet, pounds and ounces.

You will need to complete pages 46 and 47 of your new home learning maths book.

You can use this image to help you.

Have fun!

Monday 22nd June

Hello Year 5. Hope you've all had a good weekend. Well done to all of you who went on Bug Club to read last week. Friday was a record day with the highest number of children all reading!

We are carrying on with our local history topic this week.

I'm sure you have realised that Brownhills was a mining town and that is why we have the miner statue. We are going to learn a bit about mining in the area this week so for today, I have pt a link to a video which tells you all about mining in the Black Country. Your mums, dads and carers might enjoy it too!

Monday 22.6.20

Good morning year five.  Today, we will be starting our new Talk For Writing project based on wizards.  There will be links to your workbook too.  Please do send me pictures of your completed work- I am really excited to see what you produce.

Today is a fun Top Trumps activity.  I hope you enjoy it.
