Good morning everyone,

Well done for all your hard work this week. I’m very pleased that more children have used Bug Club this week.

Today’s work is below, please complete it all.

You know how to contact me if you need to. Have a great weekend.

Yesterday’s Daily Challenge

Daily Challenge

Look at this picture carefully, how many squares can you find?

Maths

Today’s work is on page 19 of your new home learning book. You will be subtracting 1s, 10s and 100s mentally. That means you try and work out the answer in your head before writing it down.

You can still work in the separate columns using place value but try to think of the answers.

It sometime helps to visualise a number line and then count backwards.

English

Today for English, you will be choosing which comparing word fits in a sentence.

You will be using words ending in -er

                                     Example: funnier, louder, bigger

But be carefully some words like gooder are not real words and need to be changed into a different word.

Say the sentences out loud to check that they make sense. Please complete page 21 in your new home learning book.

Spelling Test

Log onto Purple Mash and find the 2do for this week’s spelling test.

Get Moving

Make sure you take time each day to get some exercise. You could play football or bounce on a trampoline. You could follow Joe Wicks' routines or do some Cosmic Yoga using the links below:

Thursday 2nd July

Good morning everyone,

I hope you are all happy and healthy. I know that you are all working hard so well done. All your work is below, please complete it all.

It was lovely to see you in the Zoom meeting so thank you for joining me.

Let’s try to use Bug Club more to practice our reading skills – there are some really great books on there.

I am so excited to be your teacher in Year 4! Let's keep up the hard work.

Have a wonderful day

Miss T xx

Daily Challenge

Can you spot 10 differences in the pictures below?

Maths

Today you will be completing page 18 in your new home learning book. It is all about mental addition, which means working it out in your head. Instead of writing down the addition for each column (ones, tens, hundreds) you work out each column in your head first.

For some questions you may need to use the inverse of the addition:

 40 + 60 = 100

 100 - 40 = 60

Read each question carefully to work out what you need to do.

English

Today I would like you to complete page 20 in your new learning book focusing on using the correct verbs.

Try reading the sentence out loud to see if it sounds right.

Pat and Mark speaks beautifully.     Incorrect

Pat and Mark speak beautifully.      Correct

You need to read each word carefully.

Question 2 asks you to decide whether the sentences are written in the active or passive voice. Use these slides to help you.

Extra task

I would like you to send me a picture of you being helpful at home. You could help by making lunch, by tidying your room or even reading with a younger brother and sister.

When we make others happy it can make us happy too.

Send me your pictures on ClassDojo and I will include them in our Friday Facebook highlights.

Yesterday’s daily challenge

Did get the correct number of cubes? There are 3 cubes that you can’t see.

Daily Challenge

Can you work out which prepositions fit these sentences?

Maths – Zoom lesson

Today we will be practising our calculation skills. Please complete pages 26 and 27 in your new home learning book. You need to read the questions carefully to decide what you need to do with the numbers.

These slides have Maths vocabulary on to help you.

English

Today you are going to practise using speech marks in your work. Please complete page 17 in your new home learning book.

We have learned about speech marks in class but read these slides to remind yourself how to use speech marks properly.

This slide tells you the difference between reported speech and direct speech.

There are rules to remember when writing direct speech.

History

Today we will be learning about the curses connected to Tutankhamun’s tomb. Some of these are quite spooky, have a read and your task will be at the end of the slides.

You know so much about Ancient Egypt and King Tutankhamun so I would like you to create a mind map that shows EVERYTHING you know. You can write small phrases and draw small pictures – make it colourful. It should look something like this:

I hope you are all feeling great today. I am so impressed with all your hard work. The pictures I am being sent on ClassDojo make me smile a lot.

Keep working hard! The work for today is all here please try to complete it all.

Yesterday’s daily challenge

Did you find the mouse?

Daily Challenge

How many cubes were used to build this shape? Are there cubes you can’t see?

Maths

Today we are going to learn about finding the perimeter of 2D shapes. Please complete pages 40 and 41 in your new home learning book. You might need to use the slides below to remind you how to find the perimeter of a 2D shape.

English

Today we are going to look at apostrophes again but this time we will be using them for contractions. Please complete pages 13 and 14 in your new home learning book.

Contracted words, also known as contractions, are short words made by putting two words together. Letters are taken out in the contraction and replaced by an apostrophe. The apostrophe shows where the missing letters should be.

This slide shows examples of common contractions that we use regularly. Be careful where you place the apostrophe – it can be tricky!

Science

Today you are going to create an optical illusion.

An optical illusion is a visual object that uses colour, light or patterns to purposefully deceive or trick the brain. It works because the brain processes information that it thinks is reality, when in fact the eye can see that it isn't.

To create your own follow the steps on the slide below.

Spelling

Daily Challenge

Can you find the mouse hiding in the toadstools?

Maths

Today will be the last session that we will be learning about fractions. You will be solving problems using your fraction knowledge and will be completing pages 36 and 37 in your new home learning book.

You will need to think carefully to decide how to work out each problem. I will put some slides here to help you.

This will help with question 3.

This will help with question 5.

This will help with question 8.

English

Today you will be learning about possessive apostrophes. Possessive apostrophes are used to tell us that something belongs to someone.

Please complete page 12 in your new home learning book.

We have learned this in class, but that seems such a long time ago. Use these slides to help you.

One item belongs to one person:

If the word end in s:

Lots of sheep in a field or lots of men in a football match:

Lots of girls or puppies (already ending in s):

Art

You are going to make a garland. You can use this idea to decorate a space in your home, maybe your bedroom.

The example I am giving uses flowers, but you could use anything you like footballs, dinosaurs, planets, fairies or even rainbows. It could be anything at all.

Just follow the instructions below:

Spelling

Here is your spelling list for this week. All the words end in -sure or -ture. Check your words carefully. The spelling test will be on Purple Mash, this Friday as normal.
