Reception
Children are admitted to school at the beginning of the academic year in which they become 5 years old, provided a school place is available.
If you would like to look around St James Primary School prior to applying for a place as your choice school, we are offering two open afternoons for 'new parents' where you can visit the school for a tour with our Early Years Leader.
The dates for open afternoons are:
Monday 14th October 4pm - 5pm
and
Monday 11th November 4pm-5pm
If you cannot make either of these dates, please phone our school office to make arrangements for a visit. We are always open to welcoming visitors and families.
The application window for September 2025 admissions is open from 6th November 2024- 15th January 2025.
We also offer a parent transition meeting in July where you can meet the Reception staff team, see the classrooms and have a welcome pack all about our school.
For any more information please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

Appeals for pupils in Nursery
If your child is on our waiting list and will not have a place during our spring or summer intake, you will be notified by telephone with a reason. If you want to appeal, you must put it in writing to the Chair of our Local School Committee (Mr Neil Brown) within 20 school days of the phone call. A member from school will contact you regarding the appeal within 14 days of receiving the letter and you will be given a date to attend the appeals meeting. Parents/carers are given 10 school days notice for the meeting. Following the panel meeting a decision will be made within 5 school days of the hearing.
Appeals for pupils in Reception to Year 6
If parents wish to appeal against a decision to refuse entry, they can do so by applying to the LA. An independent panel considers all such appeals, and its decision is binding for all parties concerned. If the appeals panel decides that we should admit a child to whom we had refused a place, then we will accept this decision and continue to do all we can to provide the best education for all the children at our school. Further details of appeal arrangements are set out in the revised Code of Practice on School Admissions Appeals, which comes into force in September 2004.
The deadline for you to submit your appeal form is 10th June 2024. Appeals received after this date may not be heard until the new school year, which starts 2nd September 2024.
For more information on how to appeal please visit the Walsall DFE admissions website:
