What do we offer parents…
1000 Stories
Sharing a book with a child is fun! It's a time for closeness, laughing and talking together – and it can also give children a flying start in life and help them become lifelong readers.
At St James we offer a ‘borrow a book scheme’ where you can borrow a book every night or as often as you like to read at bedtime with your child. By sharing a book every night your child will enhance their vocabulary and learn new words, develop an insight into the world around them, begin to understand feelings and emotions, strengthen their bond with you and develop a love for books.
Home Learning
Homework is an important extension of classroom learning. It helps to cement the ideas that children learn at school (or should be learning!), helping things sink in further and expanding their knowledge.
Each week your child will be given a ‘Home Learning Project’, these activities have been tailored towards the development milestones for all 7 areas of learning within the EY Curriculum. Have fun completing these home learning activities with your child to support their learning and development.
Inspire Workshops
Each half term we offer Parent Inspire workshops with a specific focus to support your child’s learning. When these sessions begin, you will spend a short time with the Early Years Leader who will explain what you can do to support your child at home followed by 45 minutes to 1 hour with your child to complete some planned activities. You will also be given a pack to take home with ideas and vocabulary to support your child’s learning. This year we will be offering workshops around Communication and Language, Maths and vocabulary, Reading and Stories, Writing, Fine Motor skills and lots more.
